International Women’s Day at Rook Records

For our first 7″ Vinyl Summit of 2025, we’re heading to London for a special two-day event celebrating the 45s community.

Day 1 – International Women’s Day at Rook Records

We are kicking off the weekend with an all-woman DJ lineup, spinning six hours of 7” vinyl to celebrate International Women’s Day. Expect an incredible selection of African roots to shoots, Disco, Female 60s & 70s Soul, Funk, Garage, Motown, Neosoul, Prog, 60s/70s Psych, Psych adjacent, Retro girlie bangers, 60s Rhythm & Blues, Roots Reggae, Soul & 80s/90s beats & breaks. and more, played by some of the most passionate selectors in the scene.

The Venue

Rook Records is a Hackney Wick record shop specialising in 2nd hand imports. The shop launched in 2016 initially online, and in 2023 opened its doors up to the public for the first time.

Expect to find jazz, soul, disco, house, rock, reggae and hip hop, with a huge range of US and Japanese imports.

Rook run’s monthly in-stores with guest DJ appearances.

In 2018 they launched Rook Radio, which is a channel for filmed sets from DJs around the world. The channel is strictly DJ focussed, with artists being encouraged to be totally free in their music selection. The result is a collection of mixes in a wide range of genres, joining the dots between world music and dance.

For this event there will be 5000 45s hitting the record shelves and bins.

The DJ’s

Debbie Golt (Vinyl Sisters)

Debbie Golt FRSA sometimes referred to as ‘the legendary Debbie Golt’ mostly plays vintage vinyl Reggae these days preferring conscious sounds – roots, revival, studio one, 70s vintage including many records she bought at the time from starting playing out in late 70s with Rock Against Racism. Eclectic African sounds also hold her favour from Cape to Cairo. Debbie co-hosts the monthly Vinyl Sisters with Outerglobe Femxle DJ Relay at the Ritzy Brixton and coordinates a growing band of guest womxn DJs as Vinyl Sisters grows. Her Djaying has taken her to festival stages like Bestival, Shambala, Fusion Marrakech, Öland Roots, Womex, Festival Rares Talents Paris, Party by the Pool Tangiers and more; and she has played at iconic venues like 100 Club, Scala, RFH Foyer, Richmix and throughout the UK with London and Hastings being her natural homes.

Currently Debbie has an award winning weekly show on Resonance FM – The Outerglobe playing African/inspired music with related arts and culture interviews having started out on one of the first women’s radio platforms, Brazen FM, and had a residency on the first ever internet station – Gaia Live. Debbie often makes mixes for other stations including a regular slot on Portobello Radio as part of the Foreign Office Crew and for Roots and Rockers on 1BTN and was a guest curator for Future Female Sounds for their Lockdown Mixcloud TakeOver. She has been interviewed on Radio One, BBC London, Ujima Radio and for Drop Da Biscuit and other platforms and recently was invited to broadcast live on QRadio, one of Gambia’s leading stations.

Over the years Debbie has managed bubbling up Global Beats artists and with her then business partnership Half the Sky gave Oumou Sangare her first UK dates and Angelique Kidjo her first published UK interview in the early 90s. Debbie has been a panellist at many music business events including Womex, In the City, Radio One Sound City and, most recently, for Vinyl B1tch. She is also chair of Women in Music UK and was awarded Best DJ at the inaugural Advantages of Ages Awards Ceremony and the BEFFTA Diversity Award.

DJ Koo

DJ Koo is a vinyl enthusiast with a deep love for music that goes back to her childhood, dancing in the living room with her mum to a collection of cherished 45s. Those early moments shaped her eclectic tastes, which now comes through in her DJ sets – blending Motown, Soul, New Wave, Disco, and Synth Pop.

Behind the decks for the past two years, she’s proud to be part of Half East Records, the collective that kick-started her DJ journey and continues to inspire her sound.

Jamie Mykaela

Jamie Mykaela is an award winning comedy-cabaret darling hailing from Australia, and now based in the UK. Fresh from being a Musical Comedy Awards Semi-Finalist and winning the RVK Fringe ‘Impact Award’, she regularly performs in venues across England from cabaret clubs of London’s West End, floral folk bars of Brighton to the claustrophobic basements of Oxford.

Mykaela works as an alt comic, burlesque performer, chanteuse, comedy producer/co-founder of Undercover Comedy and as a vinyl DJ – she likes long walks on the beach and very strong, very dirty martinis. Mykaela is currently touring her internationally award-winning, multi sell out solo show DADDY in the UK and preparing CAVERNOUS for touring.

Jawa Jones (Wanita Music)

Born in Jakarta, Indonesia Jawa Jones is a vinyl DJ known for spinning 60s soul, psych and SE Asian grooves. She has a residency at Spiritland and Walthamstow Trades Hall, London and has DJed at Freakout Fest Seattle, Beirut Groove Collective, Gargeville Hamburg and Barcelona Psych Festival, as well as an appearance on My Analog Journal.

Jawa is also the founder of Wanita Music, an initiative dedicated to championing female DJs and celebrating womxn in music.

Miss Chivers (Whoosh!)

Yvette Chivers, AKA DJ MissChivers, has been a pioneer of blending old and new dance music for the past 17 years. A collector of records, including Motown, since the age of 16, it is no surprise where her influence has come from. She has spun in clubs and festivals both across the UK and further afield, including Ministry of Sound and Secret Garden Party, never letting her degenerative vision loss hold her back.

DJ MissChivers’s main passion is breakbeat, with elements of house and DnB included, and her sets are always guaranteed to keep the dancefloor jumping. During her career, she has been involved with various facets of the dance music industry, working with legends such as Wolfgang Flur (ex-Kraftwork), OMD, Orbital, 808 State, Utah Saints and Talvin Singh.

She joined the 45 Day and We Love 45s crew in 2021 during lockdown, and since has been running We Love 45s events in Cambridge and building up the scene with a now 20-strong 45s DJ collective in the city!

Thirteen Scorpios

Thirteen Scorpios aka Natalie Reilly is an artist and DJ based on the south coast of England. Both her artistic output and record collection reflect her obsession with all things psychedelic.

Natalie first fell in love with the sound of phasing as a child thanks to Itchycoo Park, and since then she’s been on a never-ending hunt for music that sits on the weirder side of the spectrum.

She spins an all-vinyl selection of 60s/70s psych (and psych-adjacent), prog, garage, and related oddities.
