Defcon

German Hip Hop Pioneer DJ Defcon is one half of the Cologne-based Soundsystem, “Disco Diamant – Jewels Of The Dancefloor”. In the late 80’s he was a member of the  band LSD, who put out the first German Hip Hop album: “Watch Out For the Third Rail”—sixty minutes of sample madness destined for cult status. As a lifelong digger, he is always on the hunt for obscure breaks in every genre. Defcon’s DJ-sets are a musical journey through myriad categories of groovy music: Boogie Disco Breaks, Oldschool Hip Hop, 80ies Electro, Latin, House Classics, Miami Bass, Rock, Soul und Funk. He has been known to quite literally “fire up” the dance floor with amateur pyrotechnics.

Rare~Grills

RARE~GRILLS is a 45 selector playing original 45s and 7″s across genres but with a focus on hip hop, boogie, and electro-funk. As Adam de Paor-Evans, he is Reader in Ethnomusicology at UCLan and author of the books Provincial Headz, Scratching the Surface, editor of the zine HEADz-zINe, and co-editor of the journal Global Hip Hop Studies.

DJ Cher of Toronto/Hamilton, Canada is an all original Rare & Northern Soul vinyl collector and DJ. Having been a driving force in the UK Turntablist scene for the last 10years Kutclass gained global notoriety through his debut release ‘Combinations from the masters’ on Cut&Paste Records, considered a must have record for any serious scratcher. Kutclass still cuts it up fresh claiming 2nd place in the global Cut2cut musical scratch battle and 3rd in the Portablist lounge scratch freestyle battle in 2020. Now running his own label JUSTGOODBEATS since 2018 with a focus on releasing sample based music from the ‘beats’ scene on lathe cut records.  Catch him spinning anything with a beat to make your head nod.

I have dj’ed on and off over the last 30 or so years but my love of vinyl & discovering new music has never waned. An early love of Hip Hop was essentially a gateway into the world of all things Funk. Over the last 18 months or so I have well & truly been bitten by the 45 bug.

Growing up on a healthy dose of Northern soul from my Father then discovering hip hop rare groove then embracing the Acid House scene. i have been into collecting and playing vinyl for over 30 years. I started djing back in 89. I like to cover a lot of genres covering jazz funk hip hop soul and rare groove. I played with some of the biggest djs on the rave scene from 1990 to 94. I have recently held a residency in Plymouth for the last few years and also put on my own nights and also produce music,and will soon be hosting my own 2 hour radio show all on 45.

Nigel Gentry is a DJ originally from London and now living in sunny Canberra in Australia. Nigel runs the Music For Modern Living blog and the Canberra Soul Club nights. Musically he spins the full range of funk & soul music. My Therapist

When we play music for others we experience reading the emotion of the crowd and then adjusting our music to meet their mood and then elevate it. Even though we’re interacting with hundreds, while a therapist is working with just one person at a time, the same principal applies: meet the client where they are, then help them to get somewhere better.

I’m obsessed with music since when i was 16, when I started produce personalized compilations on tapes for my friends, just to be sure they would be able to enjoy music as I was. Chrome

Chrome has been rhyming, cutting, breaking and generally living and breathing HipHop since the late 80’s. Whilst always experimenting with new styles, Chrome has a whole lot of substance to back him up. In previous incarnations, Chrome (alongside UK HipHop outfit ‘DefTex’ and his rhyme partner ‘Illinspired’ and also a solo artist) has played support for Public Enemy, De La Soul, Grandmaster Flash, Craig Charles, Huey Morgan, the list goes on! Chrome has toured Europe and played at festivals including Glastonbury, Latitude, Shambala and more. Chrome is also behind the successful weekly‘Funk and Soul radio show’ on Future radio. He’s renowned for rocking crowds as a solo MC or alongside his band Chrome+. His party style sets as a DJ mixing up Funk, HipHop, Soul and more add confirmation of his ability as an artist to deliver.

   

Scottie Boy

Anyone that knows Scottie knows music is his inspiration, my passion. He made that connection early in life and has been an avid record collector and DJ for over 40 years, if it on vinyl, he wants it! Having been a Mixcloud and Ness Radio contributor since launch. He Dj’s in his hometown, all the time and is a know face in and around EdinburghClick to discover all sorts of musical treats. One minute I’ll be rocking underground house, the next twisted dubbed up disco, or dropping in some conscious reggae, all in the mix for you to enjoy. Every listen he get motivates him to search for the best new and old music, once you go into his mixes,  he promises a journey for the eclectic state of mind. Nothing is left out, he plays it all, if it good, its played.

   

DJ Fib

DJ Fib is a turntablist from the golden era of Hip Hop when scratching was king. A lover of the Funk with an extra penchant for P Funk and G Funk. Part of the legendary KGB Posse outta Brisbane, Fib created the early music content for Hype Magazine, and was a serial mixtape producer before collaborating with Jigsaw Geoff to produce the original Blunted Stylus release Hempatitis on the fledgling Hydrofunk records. He somehow survived the 90’s and beyond and is active on the mixer hosting multiple radio mixshows and podcasts and DJing live around Australia.

   

Wayward Girls Soul Club

The Wayward Girls Soul Club is a collective of female DJs from Portland, Oregon. They each bring their own unique collections of soul music on vinyl for your listening pleasure. You can find them at Portland’s World Famous Kenton Club patio every third Saturday of the month or online.

Wavezz is a part of Czech djs and vinyl collectors duo Magič & Wavezz. They’ve been groovin’ together since 2011 and their repertoire consists mainly of funk, hip hop, jazz, original breaks & crates, latin, afrobeat.
